Having just a blog is not enough. You have to make your blog efficient and visible to use it in the following ways;

Make money through Ads. you can make money through ads every time your visitors click on a certain ad on your blog. Ads are usually banners that you place in your content or sidebar. You do need to be in direct contact with advertisers, especially with Google AdSense. You simply need to just place the banner on your site, Google chooses ads relevant to your content, and your viewers click on the ads. You can also try out Chitika, Infolinks, and if Google AdSense does not work for you.

Selling private ads. Selling private ads can come in the form of banners, buttons, or links. Most times, when your website has a lot of traffic, visitors and followers, advertisers come to you directly and ask you to place ads about their products on your blog at a price. You get the opportunity to set your own ads rates in this situation as compared to the first instance where you are paid according to clicks. You can also contact advertisers yourself.

Affiliate marketing. This is where you are paid by an advertiser by commission when his/her product is bought by a visitor from your website/blog. Here an affiliate code is tracked by the link the advertiser gives you which yo put on your website. That way, she knows when a buyer used your link to make a purchase.

Use it as a digital marketing tool for your products. You can market your products by using your blog. For instance, if you are dealing in fashion, you can create a blog talking about your fashion and sell your products using your blog. You can also establish a brand for the services you offer by showcasing your expertise on your blog through various content you post, think of your blog as a content marketing tool that will drive visitors to your business website.

Sell membership. Another option to make money is to sell memberships to exclusive corners of your website. For instance, a career blog might charge $10 per month for users to gain access to their job board. A startup business blog might sell memberships to their forums where people can get personalized advice about their business. The key here is that your exclusive membership has to be more valuable than something your visitors can find for free somewhere else, so be sure you’re developing something of value and worth the price.

Sell services. This is one of the greatest ways to make some extra cash.By building a reputation from your blog, you are building awareness of your expertise, educating your visitors on particular topics and building trust with them. This will enable you to sell services directly related to the topic of your blog for example relationships, catering for a food blog, knitting, designing, fashion, and etc. You can also offer freelance blogging services like writing or graphic design or consultation in nearly every niche.
